![]() ![]() Grizz's obsession with Golden Eggs was revealed to be due to them being neecessary for his plan to cover Earth with his self-manufactured Fuzzy Ooze. In contrast, the English version depicts him as an intimidating boss who more obviously only cares about Golden Eggs. This discrepancy is based on conventional Japanese wisdom that an unnervingly polite boss in a dangerous line of work is a sign of a toxic workplace (or "black company"), because the politeness is actually an attempt to placate workers with platitudes while subjecting them to inhumane conditions. He talks like a calm, reticent and caring superior with awe towards the ocean, which creates eerie dissonance when juxtaposed with the overall shady atmosphere of Grizzco. Grizz maintains a much more polite, well-mannered facade, befitting the CEOs of the Japanese black companies that served as inspiration for Grizzco. In the original Japanese version of the games, Mr. He is comparably much more polite and demonstrates more professionalism. Splatoon 3 characterizes him closer to the Japanese version of the games, albeit retaining some traits from the English localization. He demonstrates hatred and revulsion towards the Salmonids, referring to them as "slimy", "filthy", "disgusting" or "screwy" at times, or referring to their Golden Eggs as his own prior to their procurement. He has a keen interest in collecting Golden Eggs, though he never states why. Despite his apparent low level of care for his workers' safety, he gives advice for improvement if players missed the shift's Egg quota or were wiped, and does not hold back complimenting players if they worked according to his expectations, or even surpassed them. He is often rude towards his workers, and occasionally loses his temper. Grizz shows an informal manner of speech and gives the impression of a strict, gruff businessman that values quality results with little appreciation for proper laws and procedures. Although he is not seen until near the end of the mode, he is alluded to earlier in calls from Cap'n Cuttlefish, whom he captured. He is the final boss of the mode, being fought on the side of The Spirit Lifter in space. Grizz is the primary antagonist of the single-player mode Return of the Mammalians, in which he intends to use a large rocket from Alterna called The Spirit Lifter to cover the planet with Fuzzy Ooze and bring back mammals from their mass extinction. Occasionally, illegally modified weapons from his personal collection are included as part of Salmon Run rotations, which he will also comment on. At the end of each shift, he congratulates the player (if successful) and lets them know how well (or not-so-well) they have done. ![]() Grizz supplies the player with advice at the beginning of each wave within a Salmon Run shift in Known Occurrence waves he offers wave-specific advice, whereas if any wave is failed, he will offer sympathetic advice pertaining to the specific Boss Salmonids or events encountered during the last played wave. Grizz will recognize returning players over Level 4 that have transferred their Splatoon 2 save data, referring to them as a returning employee. Grizz will see that they are a "newb" and will not let them take a Salmon Run shift as they would be a "liability". However, if the player enters before reaching Level 4, Mr. Grizz greets the player and gives them two tutorials before they can play the mode online, showcasing how to defeat each Boss Salmonid (except those exclusive to certain Known Occurrences). When the player enters Salmon Run for the first time, Mr. He is responsible for training, coaching, and supervising his employees. The final Alterna Log reveals he originally resembled a normal grizzly bear with glowing white eyes, implying his appearance was drastically altered during his experiments with Fuzzy Ooze. In the finale he grows to enormous proportions by absorbing large amounts of Fuzzy Ooze, after which his eyes start glowing red. Return of the Mammalians reveals his true appearance to be that of an enormous, strangely shaped brown grizzly bear with a teddy bear-like face, glowing white eyes and blots of Fuzzy Ooze on his shoulders, belly, and forearms. Upon completing Return of the Mammalians, the statue in the latter mode is swapped out for a separate staue of a large fish eating a small bear. The statue is typically used to represent him. Grizz most likely isn't observing the workplace. ![]() However, these messages are likely prerecorded, or part of an automatic speech program, as Mr. Grizz speaks through a wooden fishing bear statue with a radio antenna attached to it. In Salmon Run and Salmon Run Next Wave, Mr. ![]()
